Creative Steps is an intimate playgroup for children between between the ages of two and four. The school has three teachers: Gabrielle, Andy and Elena, and will be adding a forth in the Fall of 2008. The ratio of teachers to students is one to five. The school's programming is based on art and social development, as described in detail in philosophy.
The school is run as a parent cooperative. This means that all parents have small jobs as well as snack/cleaning responsibilities. Creative Steps has an affiliation with New York University and offers preferred enrollment to NYU students and faculty, as well as to siblings of Creative Steps alumni. Children must attend Creative Steps at least two days a week; Creative Steps has flexible scheduling to accomodate different family needs. School hours are between 9am and 2pm. There is an afterschool program that continues childcare until 4 pm. Afterschool payment are not included in tuition. The maximum number of children is fifteen a day. The school schedule follows that of the New York City public schools for holidays and vacations. There is a summer camp for the months of June and July. We offer a wide variety of enrichment classes such as music, movement and yoga. The classes are offered once weekly per class so that all students -- even those attending a few days a week -- can participate.
